The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is sued
Details of the lawsuit by a former minister
I and many others have written about recent trends of dogmatism, illiberalism and intolerance in the national Unitarian Universalist church. You can read about it in articles such as “How to Destroy a Liberal Church”, “The culture wars dividing America’s most liberal church” and “Standing on the Side of Power.”
One of the most widely covered examples is the case of retired UU minister Dr. Kate Rohde.
A longtime UU minister, pioneering feminist, civil rights, gay rights and immigrant rights activist, and one of the first female UU ministers in the South, she alleges that she was defamed and expelled from the UUA for posting in a private Facebook group opinions critical of the UUA and the new trends. An elderly and disabled woman living on a limited income, she had her annual service gratuity earned from her over 30 years of service taken away.
You can hear about her story in the podcast episode “How the Unitarian Church Melted Down.”
You can also read her recent post about it, “The Ideological Takeover of the Church I Loved.”
