Who am I?

My name is David Cycleback, Ph.D. I’m a cognitive scientist, philosopher, and artifacts historian with a focus on how brain function relates to knowledge, beliefs, and behavior. My research has spanned a range of topics, including mental disorders such as autism, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, as well as group behavior, art perception, and artificial intelligence.

I am the retired Director of Center for Artifact Studies, a member of the British Royal Institute of Philosophy and the American Philosophical Association, and the author of ten peer-reviewed university textbooks. These include Nature and Limits of Human Knowledge, Cognitive Science of Religion and Belief Systems, and Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence. My non-academic books include What is Thinking? and Understanding Art and Art Perception.

In the field of artifacts history and museology, I’ve written several standard references, including Authenticating Art and Artifacts and Judging the Authenticity of Photographs.
